A chord is a combination of 3+ different notes sounded together. When you’re new to guitar, one of the first things you learn is how to play simple chords.
For all of the beginner guitar players out here, there are a whole bunch of very simple 3 – 4 chords songs that you can start playing after a short time of practicing, here is a video that covers a few of them.

Major chords, together with the minor chords, are normally the first chords to learn on the guitar. These are fundamental and most other chords are extended or altered versions of major and minor chords.
Besides the basic major chords there are other categories that also use major in the name. Among these are major seventh, major ninth and major thirteenth.

Minor chords are together with the major chords the most important chords to learn for guitarists. This chord type consists of a root note, a minor third and a fifth. The minor third and the fifth are theoretical names and nothing you must commit to memory.
Minor chords are written with the letter for the root note followed by an “m” (for minor). Besides the basic minor chords there are other categories that also use minor in the name, such as minor 7th, minor 9th, minor 11th and minor 13th.
